Premier proclaims Public Service Week

Premier Danny Williams has declared the week of June 12 to June 18 as Public Service Week in Newfoundland and Labrador. The proclamation signing was witnessed by members of the Public Service Week 2005 Coordinating Committee (see photo). The theme of the week is Recognizing the Work; Celebrating the Experience.

"This special week gives us an opportunity to recognize the dedication and professionalism of our employees," said Premier Williams. "We must never undervalue the importance of public service work. Every day, capable and competent public service employees contribute immensely to our province, as they deliver programs and services across Newfoundland and Labrador. We have come to expect professional and responsive public services, and this is largely due to the high quality of service we have personally received from public service employees at all levels, in all regions and in many diverse program areas. Public service employees continue to meet today�s many challenges and provide excellent service with professionalism, impartiality and personal commitment."

Over the past number of years, the provincial government has been actively engaged in a new human resources management strategy, Creating Tomorrow�s Public Service. It has been developed to ensure our public service continues to meet today�s needs and that employees are ready to embrace new challenges, approaches and opportunities. Creating Tomorrow�s Public Service is a direct result of extensive government-wide planning and cooperation by public service employees in all departments and agencies. The goals include a dynamic work force, solid human resource management, enhanced internal communications, improved productivity and strategically-focused learning and development.

"I thank all employees for the services they provide and extend congratulations to the Public Service 2005 Coordinating Committee for their efforts," added the premier. "I encourage everyone to partake in the activities planned to celebrate our valued public employees this week."

During Public Service Week, special events will take place recognizing the work of public service employees and highlighting the programs and services they deliver to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.
