Premier expresses condolences on the passing of Dr. Noel Murphy

Danny Williams, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador and MHA for Humber West, today expressed his condolences on the passing of Dr. Noel Murphy.

"I was saddened to hear the news of Dr. Murphy's death," Premier Williams said. "His life will resonate with Corner Brook and his province for many generations to come. As community doctor, radio pioneer, mayor and distinguished Member for Humber East in the House of Assembly, Dr. Murphy leaves a legacy of community service that will inspire future generations of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians."

Premier Williams added that the many national and provincial honours bestowed on Dr. Murphy signify tremendous recognition across Canada. "He was a beloved figure right across Canada and contributed greatly to the country he dearly loved," added Premier Williams. "However, Corner Brook was his home and his contributions were most poignant in this city. He was first and foremost a beloved member of the medical community, but that was not enough for such a passionate and giving Newfoundlander. In addition to his medical profession, he contributed his knowledge and experience in the journalism and political realms. I will personally certainly miss reading his public commentary and views of the world.

"Dr. Murphy will be dearly missed and, on behalf of all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians, I pass on sincere and heartfelt condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time."
