Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment and Conservation Minister Tom Osborne has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

1) Kings Brook (Millertown Jct.) Snowmobile Trail                                               (Reg. 1181)
Proponent: Newfoundland and Labrador Snowmobile Federation

The proponent proposes to develop a five kilometre snowmobile trail in the Kings Brook area, near Millertown Junction. The trail will be groomed six metres wide with signs. Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in early Spring 2005. The undertaking was registered on March 3, 2005; public comments are due by April 12; and the minister's decision is due by April 17.

2) Pine Cove (Open Pit) Gold Mine                                                 (Reg. 1182)
Proponent: Anaconda Gold Corp.

The proponent proposes to develop a gold mine using open pit methods and conducting all milling and processing on site. The site is located at Pine Cove, which is approximately five kilometres north east of Baie Verte and approximately the same distance south east of Ming's Bight. Access will be by existing woods roads which will be upgraded as required. The open pit will comprise a total area of approximately 9.8 hectares when complete. The pit will reach a maximum depth of 150 metres along the south wall. It is anticipated that 2.4 million tonnes of ore and 9.8 million tonnes of rock will be removed. The undertaking was registered on March 8, 2005; public comments are due by April 12; and the minister's decision is due by April 22.

The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown.
