Environmental
Assessment Bulletin Environment
and Conservation Minister Tom Osborne has announced the following
events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the
Environmental Protection Act.
UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:
Barton Sheep Farm
(Reg. 1176)
Proponent: Mr. Reg Gardner
The proponent proposes to develop a sheep farm near Barton, Smith
Sound, Trinity Bay. The site is to the northwest of Smith Sound
Provincial Park and approximately midway between Riders Brook and
Snooks Brook. The proposed farm will be on a 107 hectare site
accessed with a 300 metre road on the north side of Route 232.
Approximately 100 breeding ewes and 4 rams are planned to be
imported in the fall of 2005, with expansion in four years to
approximately 500 sheep and 1,000 lambs born annually. Other farm
infrastructure development will include five sheep sheds, a hay
barn, equipment shed and perimeter fencing. Development is planned
to commence in early May 2005. The undertaking was registered on
February 21; public comments are due by March 28; and the minister's
decision is due by April 7.
The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved
and to make comments known. Comments on submitted documents are
invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister and
are welcome prior to the deadline date shown.
