Transportation and Works to ship fuel to Rigolet

Tom Rideout, Minister of Transportation and Works, today announced that the department has agreed to transport a supply of fuel to the north coast Labrador town of Rigolet.

"It was brought to my attention yesterday that the town of Rigolet was low on fuel, and they were requesting that my department transport approximately 30-50 drums of fuel from Cartwright to Rigolet on the M/V Trans Gulf," said the minister. "I am pleased to announce today that arrangements have been made and fuel will be shipped to Rigolet on Tuesday, August 10, without incurring any additional cost to the provincial treasury."

The Town of Rigolet took over the distribution of fuel following the pull-out of private enterprise in 2002.

"As a government, we are cognizant of the unique challenges faced by the residents of Labradors north coast, and we will endeavor to do all we can to assist the people of the north coast in meeting these challenges, where we have the financial resources available," said the minister.
