Minister announces awarding of contracts for road work
in the District of St. Georges-Stephenville East

Tom Rideout, Minister of Transportation and Works, today announced the awarding of a contract for road work in the District of St. Georges-Stephenville East. This contract was awarded under this years Provincial Roads Improvement Program.

Minister Rideout stated, "A contract has been awarded to Humber Valley Paving Ltd., of Corner Brook, valued at approximately $546,000."

The contract will cover recapping sections of Route 407 at Millville towards ORegans and Gut Bridge toward Millville. It will also cover recapping a section of Route 406 at Upper Ferry.

"We are using the 2004 roads program to invest in development of our roads infrastructure in ways that will have the most positive impact. This will strengthen the provinces ability to generate economic growth and create an environment that is conducive to job creation," said Minister Rideout.

The award of these tenders represents approximately half a million dollars in road work for the province. Statistics Canada estimates that for every million dollars spent on road work, 12 direct and eight indirect jobs are created.
