Bonavista South to benefit from provincial roads program

Tom Rideout, Minister of Transportation and Works, and Roger Fitzgerald, MHA for the District of Bonavista South, today announced roads projects for the district to be completed in 2004-05.

"The quality of roads infrastructure within the province is a priority as government moves forward in developing a comprehensive infrastructure strategy," said Minister Rideout.

"Projects planned for the Bonavista South district include completion of upgrading a section of Bonavista Highway, Route 230, near Morleys Siding, which was started last year. We will also pave a section of Winter Brook Road and carry out additional upgrading and paving on sections of Route 230 and 235. This work is valued at over $1.3 million. I expect tenders to be issued in the near future."

"I am especially delighted to note that there are plans to upgrade Route 230 on the Bonavista Highway," said MHA Roger Fitzgerald. "This road is especially significant for our local tourism industry. With these improvements, the journey for tourists will be all the more enjoyable.

"The community of Winter Brook celebrated its 100th birthday some time ago and the residents of this growing town have never had their roads resurfaced with asphalt. The people of Winter Brook have been both patient and understanding, and I am certainly happy to see this work being completed in the first year of this administration being in government."
