Road work announced for Bay of Islands, Cartwright and L�Anse au Clair, Exploits,
Grand Bank and Port de Grave

Tom Rideout, Minister of Transportation and Works, today announced road work for the districts of Bay of Islands, Cartwright and L�Anse au Clair, Exploits, Grand Bank and Port de Grave under the 2004 Provincial Roads Improvement Program.

"This year�s program provides funding for upgrading and improving the provincial highway network, including major trunk roads, community access roads and local roads, as well as routine maintenance on the Trans Canada Highway. It also provides funds for rehabilitation and replacement of bridges and culverts," said Minister Rideout.

Planned projects for each respective district include:

  • $240,00 funding to complete projects which began in the fall of 2003 and involves a resurface of various sections of Routes 440 and 450 respectively in the Bay of Islands district;
  • rehabilitation of Forteau Brook Bridge and L�Anse aux Loup Bridge in the district of Cartwright and L�Anse au Clair valued at $300,000;
  • rehabilitation of Bishop�s Falls east overpass in Exploits district valued at $75,000;
  • place asphalt at Fortune Brook culvert in the district of Grand Bank valued at $15,000;
  • repair washout on Daniel�s Cove Road in the district of Port de Grave valued at $140,000.

"The department recognizes the importance of these projects to the road users of the province as well as the road building industry. I anticipate that tenders will be issued in the near future for these projects. This roads program demonstrates this government�s commitment to providing a safe and reliable transportation network within our province,"said Minister Rideout.
