Road work announced for St. Barbe District

Tom Rideout, Minister of Transportation and Works, and Wallace Young Jr., MHA for the District of St. Barbe, today announced road work for the district valued at $900,000 under the Provincial Roads Program for 2004.

"The 2004-05 provincial budget allocated $30 million for improvement and construction of provincial roads, a $7 million increase over the previous year. This years program provides funding for upgrading and improving the provincial highway network, including road work for the District of St. Barbe," said Minister Rideout.

Projects planned for the district include:

  • Resurfacing two sections of Route 430 between Western Brook North and St. Pauls and Gros Morne National Part and Portland Creek;
  • work at Foresters Point, Loop Road

"I expect tenders to be called in the near future for these projects," said Minister Rideout.

MHA Wallace Young said: "These projects will go a long way toward improving the infrastructure of the district, especially Route 430 which is a vital tourism and commercial link for the Northern Peninsula. As visitors continue from Gros Morne National Park through to LAnse aux Meadows, these improvements will further their enjoyment of the Great Northern Peninsula."
