Nike All Canada Mens Hoop Camp

The Newfoundland and Labrador Basketball Association will have two male athletes attend the Nike All Canada Camp in Ontario this weekend. Forty-eight of Canada's elite men's basketball athletes will gather at Humber College in Toronto for four days. Representing this province is Mark Woodland of St. Johns and Stephen Singleton of St. Josephs. Dr. Bas Kavanagh will also be attending the camp as an assistant instructor.

The Nike All-Canada Camp is an invite-only opportunity for Canada's basketball future stars to learn advanced training techniques, sharpen their playing skills and be taught a series of valuable life lessons that will help enable them to prepare for the challenges of life as a student-athlete.

In addition to the on-court skills development sessions, inter-squad scrimmages will give attendees an opportunity to showcase their skills for a host of CIS and NCAA scouts and recruiters.

On Saturday, the camp will feature the Nike All-Canada Camp Finals, including a Slam Dunk contest, three-point shootout and an all-star game. After the first few days of workouts and scrimmages, coaches will select the top 20 players to participate in the all-star game, which is open to accredited media.

Kevin Carr, who currently serves as director of player programs for the NBA, will be on hand to serve as a consultant for the life skills segment of the camp. Mr. Carr, who has an abundance of experience teaching life skills to student athletes, has been responsible for providing similar sessions to NBA players.

Athletes selection to the men's Nike All-Canada Camp is determined by the provincial basketball associations and Canada Basketball based on agreed criteria.
