New NLBA president

Dr. Basil Kavanagh has assumed the role of president of the Newfoundland and Labrador Basketball Association after this past weekend�s annual general meeting in St. John�s. Dr. Kavanagh replaces Mark Jones who did not seek re-election after his one-year term at the helm. For Dr. Kavanagh, this is his second term in office, as he served as president of the association from 1982-84.

David Constantine was elected vice president of the association and replaces Scott Lynch in this position. Other positions that require appointment to the executive committee include secretary/treasurer and policy director. Other members of the association include: Roger Head, (Senior Director); Gord Pike (Minor Director); Brian Payne (Northern Director); Tom Earles (Western Director); Blair Sparkes (Central Director); Jim Loder (Eastern Director); Mark Nash (Avalon Director); Gary Sooley (Mount Pearl South Director) and Kevin Fitzpatrick (St. John�s North Director).

Other issues that were discussed at the AGM include: CBET, CP-Atlantic Program, Senior and Minor Tournaments, CIS Men�s Rules and Hall of Fame Cup for the 2005 season.
