Burin-Placentia West district benefits from Municipal Capital Works Program

Jack Byrne, Minister of Municipal and Provincial Affairs, and Clyde Jackman, MHA for the District of Burin-Placentia West, today announced projects approved for the district under the Municipal Capital Works Program.

"Budget 2004-05 committed to maintain funding for infrastructure improvements," said Minister Byrne. "The projects announced for the district of Burin-Placentia West will see significant improvements to local recreational facilities. The two projects total $321,498."

Projects include:

  • Upgrade of soccer and softball fields in Burin for 2004 Provincial Summer Games;
  • Upgrade to municipal sports facility in Marystown relating to the 2004 Provincial Summer Games.

As government moves forward with the second prong of the two-pronged approach, it recognizes that investments in infrastructure provide opportunities for growth. Solid infrastructure in rural Newfoundland and Labrador is an important part of economic development. Through these projects, government is re-affirming its commitment to community infrastructure.

"The Burin Peninsula is extremely pleased to be hosting this years Provincial Summer Games," said MHA Clyde Jackman. "These upgrades will ensure that our athletes have the proper facilities so they can compete at their best. These upgrades will also benefit local athletes in the years to come."
