"Everyday, within government, we strive for excellence - excellence in policy and program development, service delivery and job performance," said Premier Williams. "These awards acknowledge this excellence, not only for the recipients here today, but for the thousands of employees across this province who work everyday for the people of Newfoundland and Labrador. I commend and congratulate all of our recipients this year for your dedication and commitment to the people of this province." "Often times, we do not fully comprehend what the delivery of essential services to the people of the province truly means,"said Mr. Thompson. "That is why recognition activities such as the Public Service Award of Excellence are so important in nurturing the great work that is accomplished through every department in all regions of our province. It is imperative we do our part to enhance and showcase the knowledgeable, innovative workforce we are so lucky to claim as our own in Newfoundland and Labrador." A total of 38 individual nominations and 24 team nominations were received, and a seven-member external selection committee reviewed the submissions. Each year, information on the award is sent to all government departments in all regions of the province. Public service employees are encouraged to nominate a colleague or team, and a group of volunteers offer assistance by answering questions or providing help in the completion of a nomination form. Nominations are received until mid-February of each year. Media contact:
