Premier expresses condolences upon the passing of Edward Maynard
Premier Danny Williams today expressed his condolences to the family and friends of former provincial cabinet minister Edward Maynard, who passed away on Friday, July 16.
"Throughout his years in public life, Ed Maynard was a strong defender of workers. His contribution to our province and its people was valued and significant," said Premier Williams. "On behalf of my family and the people of the province, I pass along sincere condolences to his family and friends. He will be missed by those who loved and knew him, and remembered by all for making such a positive contribution to this province."
Mr. Maynard served the people of Newfoundland and Labrador in many critical portfolios during the 1970s, including Labour; Forestry and Agriculture; Manpower and Industrial Relations; Public Works and Services; Treasury Board; Executive Council; and Industrial Development. He was elected three times to represent the constituents of St. Barbe South (1971-1975) and St. Barbe (1975-1979) in the House of Assembly after having served for a decade in municipal politics. He later served for a decade as chair of the province’s Workers’ Compensation Commission.
