Minister congratulates Humber Valley Resort

Tourism, Culture and Recreation Minister Paul Shelley congratulated Humber Valley Resort today for winning the 2003 Bentley International Homes five-star Best Canadian Resort and the Best International Resort awards. The awards were presented at a ceremony held in London, England on November 6.

"I congratulate Humber Valley Resort for this significant achievement," said Minister Shelley. "This kind of recognition is always good news for Newfoundland and Labrador. This resort is world-class and adds to the exciting tourism product we offer in this province."

The Humber Valley Resort is based on the banks of Deer Lake and features luxury chalets all within a close distance to Marble Mountain, Gros Morne National Park and fly-fishing, hunting and snowmobiling facilities creating a positive impact on these tourism sectors as well as others.

The Humber Valley already has a strong winter tourism component, but this resort will give the area more year-round appeal due to its golf course and other facilities which are in the development stages. It adds another component to the accommodations sector in the region and should develop a relationship with travel clubs from various countries around the world which specialize in moving high-yield clientele. The resort plans to open during the winter of 2005.
