 Revised carcass collection program for fox, lynx and coyote

The Inland Fish and Wildlife Division of the Department of Tourism Culture and Recreation is advising trappers that the $150 specimen reward offered for fox and coyote carcasses as part of the Rabies Eradication Program will be discontinued effective October 20, 2003. Any trappers possessing carcasses for submission and wishing to be eligible for this reward should do so on or before this date.

With the start of the regular trapping season scheduled for October 20, 2003, a newly revised Rabies Monitoring Carcass Collection Program for fox, lynx and coyote will be implemented. Details of this new program include:

  • carcass collection will be expanded to include lynx, fox and coyote;
  • the Carcass Collection Program will be expanded to include the entire island;
  • a reward of $25 will be paid for all fox, lynx and coyote carcasses;
  • only the carcass (skin off) of the animal needs to be submitted;
  • to be eligible for the $25 reward all carcass must be tagged identifying the trappers name, address, telephone number, date trapped, and location trapped;
  • carcass may be submitted to the nearest district office of the Department of Forest Resources and Agrifoods .

The Inland Fish and Wildlife Division wishes to thank the trapping community for their assistance with the Rabies Eradication Program. Their continued support throughout the 2003/04 trapping season will also be appreciated.

Trappers are advised to take all the necessary precautions when handling these animals.
