Government provides funding to support provincial sport organizations

Human Resources and Employment Minister Ralph Wiseman, on behalf of Tourism, Culture and Recreation Minister Julie Bettney, today presented three Newfoundland and Labrador sport organizations with their annual operational grants. Representatives from Sport Newfoundland and Labrador, School Sport and the Newfoundland and Labrador Parks and Recreation Association were in attendance to accept the funds, which support these organizations in providing and promoting activities that allow people to live healthy, active lives.

"I am pleased to present grants to these provincial sport organizations," said Minister Wiseman. "These organizations, through their thousands of volunteers and participants across the province, make an immense contribution to the lives and health of all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.

"Sport and regular physical activity is important to people at all stages of life, from the young student playing basketball for the first time to the senior out for a morning walk on one of our walking trails. The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is proud to make this contribution towards the advancement of sport and recreation in the province."

Sport Newfoundland and Labrador is the volunteer organization committed to the promotion and advancement of amateur sport throughout the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.

School Sport provides the opportunity for students aged 12-19 from every high school in the province to engage in activities that promote healthy lifestyles, sportsmanship and responsibility. The organization also encourages students to participate in the educational opportunities available to them.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Parks and Recreation Association has a vision of a society that values a clean environment, an active lifestyle for people of all ages and a commitment to provide recreation for all. NLP/RA is committed to its role in improving the quality of life of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians
