Minister encourages small game licence return completion

Julie Bettney, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, today encouraged small game hunters to complete their small game licence returns. These returns provide wildlife managers the opportunity to incorporate hunter observations and concerns directly into the provincial management process. Collectively, these returns provide an estimate on the average number of each small game species harvested. This provides an indirect method of assessing the status of each of the populations.

In recent years, only 2-5 per cent of small game hunters completed returns, making it difficult to accurately incorporate hunter observations into resource management decisions.

Starting this year, a duplicate copy of Small Game Licence returns will be provided in the Annual Hunting and Trapping Guide. This copy can be used should the originals be lost or misplaced.
