NLIS 1 November 27, 2003 (Industry, Trade and Rural Development) Local companies to participate in international marine trade and exhibition show Seven Newfoundland and Labrador companies will be in New Orleans from December 3-5 to participate in the 2003 International Workboat Show, the largest commercial marine trade show and conference in North America. The Department of Industry, Trade and Rural Development will lead the Newfoundland and Labrador delegation, which includes naval architectural firms, marine industrial manufacturers and marine technology companies. "Promoting the province�s marine technology capabilities and expertise in international markets is vitally important to the growth and success of this industry," said Industry, Trade and Rural Development Minister Kathy Dunderdale. "The marine technology industry offers significant opportunity for new job creation in Newfoundland and Labrador and our participation in the International Workboat Show is one way we can tell the world about our capabilities and to help our companies expand." The Department of Industry, Trade and Rural Development has led a provincial delegation to the trade show since 1991 and the event generates significant results for Newfoundland and Labrador companies. Companies that participated in the 2002 show reported immediate sales of $775,000 within six months. The International Workboat Show is North America�s premier trade show for inland and coastal marine technology companies. Products and services highlighted at the trade show include marine navigation and lighting equipment, marine communications products, and radar systems. It is the largest and most recognized show of its kind in the world. The show boasts over 900 exhibitors, buyers from 48 different countries, and a 24 year history.
