Lotek Wireless Inc. of St. Johns receives second Canada Export Award

Lotek Wireless Inc. captured a Canada Export Award for the second year in a row last night in Toronto. The leading edge company was among 12 firms that received national awards at the 2003 Canada Export Awards, which took place during the annual convention of the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters.

"The fact that Lotek Wireless is the recipient of a Canadian Export Award for the second year in a row is quite a coup for the company and indeed for Newfoundland and Labrador as a whole. The win reinforces to national and international audiences that Newfoundland and Labrador companies are truly cutting edge - a fact that we have known for some time," said Kathy Dunderdale, Minister of Industry, Trade and Rural Development. "On behalf of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, I congratulate the company and its employees and wish them continued success in the future. Lotek Wireless has made our province very proud."

The Canada Export Awards recognize export excellence. In 2002, Lotek Wireless was awarded the Canada Export Award for Innovation and Technology.

"Our success can be attributed to a combination of technical competency, research and development spending and a sense of mission that drives our employees and provides sustainable solutions," said Jim Lotimer, CEO of Lotek Wireless Inc..

Keith Stoodley, Director - Oceans for Lotek Wireless Inc., added: "As the oceans continue to contribute more and more to our corporate growth, the importance of being located in Newfoundland and Labrador becomes self-evident."

Lotek Wireless Inc., a world leader in the design and manufacture of electronic fish and wildlife tracking and monitoring systems, has offices in St. Johns, Newfoundland and Labrador and Newmarket, Ontario. Lotek started its St. Johns operation in 1995 and currently employs more than 30 highly skilled individuals at that location. The company manufactures acoustic, radio, archival and satellite tracking systems. Exports represent more than 90 per cent of the companys sales and its tracking devices are used in over 40 countries today.

Pettigrew, the federal International Trade Minister, presented the annual Canada Export Awards on November 24, 2003 to a select number of Canadian firms, chosen by a panel of prominent business people from across Canada.
