Premier agrees to debate automobile insurance reform

Today, while participating in a local radio call in program, Premier Roger Grimes stated he is willing to participate in a live debate on auto insurance reform with the Leader of the Opposition.

"The Leader of the Opposition has expressed his views on what he says is the governments insurance legislation, although we have yet to release it publicly," said Premier Grimes. "This is an issue too important to the consumers of the province to be dealt with in a manner based on unsubstantiated information. Therefore, following the release of our plan that will ensure that the insurance a person must have to operate a motor vehicle in this province is affordable, I look forward to an open debate that will highlight the difference between the position promoted by both parties.

"I believe it is incumbent on those who serve in public office to make clear their views and those of their caucus regarding issues like insurance that impact in a significant way on the people of the province. I look forward to the opportunity to publicly debate the merits of the governments consumer insurance reform package wherein the public can question its elected officials on the issue, and most importantly on their views."
