Minister Lush plans meetings with federal ministers

Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Tom Lush is making plans to meet with federal ministers on issues of key importance to Newfoundland and Labrador.

"I plan to return to Ottawa within the next few weeks to discuss key issues with my federal counterparts, and advocate the provinces views on issues of mutual interest," Minister Lush said.

Issues being pursued by Minister Lush include equalization; the military presence in the province; the promotion and marketing of the NATO flight training program in Labrador; and, immigration issues.

"It is very important to ensure that we share our knowledge and our considered views with decision makers in the federal government," the minister said. "I also look forward to having another opportunity to meet with Newfoundland and Labradors representatives in Parliament."

These meetings will be among a series of meetings Minister Lush has initiated since his appointment to the Intergovernmental Affairs portfolio.

"I am looking forward to a series of productive discussions with my federal colleagues, and to reporting on progress of them," he said.
