Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment Minister Tom Osborne has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Glenwood - Appleton Sewage Treatment Facility                                            (Reg. 1109)
Proponent: Towns of Appleton and Glenwood

The proponent proposes to build a sewage treatment facility for the towns of Glenwood and Appleton. The proposed facility would replace two existing treatment plants which discharge into the Gander River. The proposed facility would serve both Glenwood and Appleton and would be located on the Glenwood side of the Gander River just north of Salmon River. Access to the site would require a new road and a bridge across Salmon River. The proposed treatment facility would include an engineered wetland process, primary sedimentation, storm water treatment, UV disinfection, and a diffused outfall discharging into Gander River. The proponent proposes to begin construction in July 2004 with an operations date of December 2005. The project was registered December 1, 2003; public comments are due by January 6, 2004; and, the minister�s decision is due on January 15, 2004.

The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown.

COMPONENT STUDY ADDENDUM ACCEPTED AS SATISFACTORY:

Cartwright Junction to Happy Valley-Goose Bay Trans Labrador Highway
Proponent: Department of Works Services and Transportation

The Cartwright Junction to Happy Valley-Goose Bay Trans Labrador Highway Raptor Component Study Addendum has been accepted as satisfactory by the minister.
