NLIS 2 March 14, 2003 (Environment) Environmental Assessment Bulletin Environment Minister Bob Mercer has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act. UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:
The proponent has submitted for environmental assessment review a Five Year (2003-2008) Forest Operating Plan for Forest Management District 19A, which is located in the Happy Valley-Goose Bay region. The district covers an area of approximately 2,270,000 hectares. Over the next five years, 299,500 cubic metres of timber is scheduled for harvest. The plan outlines proposed commercial and domestic forest harvesting, forest access roads and silviculture activities. The undertaking was registered on March 12, 2003; public comments are due April 18, 2003; and the minister's decision is due April 26, 2003. The proponent has also supplied copies of the 20 year (2003-2023) Forest Ecosystem Strategy Plan for District 19. Copies are available as background information for the plan. The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown.
