Department announces on-line tutoring

The Department of Education, through its Centre for Distance Learning and Innovation (CDLI), is pleased to announce that on-line tutorial sessions with a mathematics specialist teacher have been established to support students who are preparing for the supplementary examination in Math 3204. Beginning immediately, a tutor will be available on-line from 7:00 - 9:30 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday until November 12, the date scheduled for the Math 3204 supplementary.

"We are pleased to be able to make this service available to the students who have chosen to upgrade their math mark through the supplementary examination," said Minister Reid. "We offered tutorial sessions throughout the spring in various subjects, and this summer also saw a tutorial for those students writing the supplementary Math 3204 exam in August. The feedback we received about the tutoring service was extremely positive. I encourage all students who plan to write the November supplementary examination to log on and avail of this valuable instructional opportunity."

CDLI, which was established in October 2002, enables students in rural and remote regions of our province to access high school courses and programs which were previously unavailable to them. In 2003-04, 25 high school courses are being offered to students at 95 sites throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.

More information is available at the CDLI Web site www.cdli.ca, or by calling the help line at 1-888-836-3559.
