Jones leads delegation to explore options for wind-turbine energy for southern Labrador

Cartwright - LAnse au Clair MHA Yvonne Jones lead a delegation to Montreal to initiate discussion and explore viable options for wind-turbine energy for Labradors south coast. The delegation met with a Belgium international company, Cedn, which has partnered with other European countries to develop wind turbines. The company is currently looking at opportunities to expand its operations in Canada.

"For the last year, I have been concentrating efforts on looking at alternatives to diesel-generated power, and one of the more evident options is wind-turbine energy," said Jones. "Currently, there are no wind-turbine energy projects established in the province and I am hopeful my district will be one of the first to pilot such an initiative."

Cedn has developments in four other countries, and is very interested in doing a test site in Labrador, Jones added.

The delegation is comprised of officials from the Department of Labrador and Aboriginal Affairs, the Department of Industry, Trade and Rural Development, the Southeastern Aurora Development Board, and Northern Eco Lands - a private-sector company based in Cartwright, owned and operated by Randall Cahill.

"We are very pleased with the discussions and are eager to pursue these opportunities," said MHA Jones.
