Silviculture funding announced for Trinity North district

Forest Resources and Agrifoods Minister Rick Woodford has announced silviculture funding in the amount of $90,650 for Trinity North district.

Mr. Woodford said governments silviculture program is a key component of its overall sustainable forest management strategy and added that silviculture initiatives provide significant benefits for individuals in many communities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. "Silviculture activity creates meaningful employment opportunities in rural parts of the province while helping sustain and enhance our valuable forest resources for future generations," said Mr. Woodford.

The project, which is scheduled to get underway today, will involved the planting of 875,000 tree seedlings from the Wooddale Provincial Tree Nursery on 350 hectares of forest. The project was awarded to Budland Enterprises of Baytona and will create up to 15 jobs for approximately six weeks.

The funding is provided through the Provincial Silviculture Program.
