Silviculture funding announced for Northern Peninsula

Forest Resources and Agrifoods Minister Rick Woodford has announced silviculture funding for the District of St. Barbe. The funding is valued at $49,800 and provided through the Provincial Silviculture Program.

Mr. Woodford said the Provincial Silviculture Program provides a number of significant benefits for individuals in a number of communities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. "Silviculture activity provides meaningful employment opportunities in rural parts of the province while helping sustain and enhance our valuable forest resource for the future," said Mr. Woodford.

This project will see 230 hectares planted with approximately 345,000 white spruce seedlings from the Wooddale Provincial Tree Nursery. This project will take place in the Mount St. Margarets area near Plum Point. The project started on June 17 and is expected to last until mid to late July. The project will create up to 20 planting related jobs. The contract for this project was awarded to Tercan Holdings Incorporated.
