Premier expresses sympathy on passing of George MacLaren

Premier Roger Grimes expressed deep regret on the passing earlier today of George MacLaren, broadcasting icon and personal friend. Premier Grimes also expressed his sympathy to Mr. MacLaren�s wife Clara, his son David, and daughter Denise.

"George was a dedicated family man and a great supporter of his community. He was well known for providing support to various charities by lending his voice to the cause," said Premier Grimes. "I am very saddened by his passing."

George MacLaren came to Newfoundland and Labrador in 1964. He spent his entire career working at VOCM radio station in St. John�s where he was a sports director for 27 years, the voice of the popular St. John�s Caps, and the first voice of the St. John�s Maple Leafs in 1991. Most recently, Mr. MacLaren was the host of the radio call-in show Nightline.
