Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment Minister Ralph Wiseman has announced the following events relative to the Environmental Assessment Act.

NEW UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

Milan Arm Region Cottage Access Road
Proponent: Wallace Green

The proponent proposes to construct a one kilometre cottage access road from Route 436 through an existing gravel pit and forested area to three cottages located on the east side of Milan Arm, Pistolet Bay, Northern Peninsula. Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in the fall of 2002. The undertaking was registered on February 25, 2002, public comments are due April 3, 2002, and the minister's decision is due April 11, 2002.

Windmill Bight (Lumsden) 18-Hole Golf Course
Proponent: Town of Lumsden and the Town of New-Wes-Valley

The proponent proposes to develop an 18-hole golf course with associated infrastructure at Windmill Bight Provincial Park, five kilometres southeast of the Town of Lumsden. The 79-hectare championship course will include a 220 square metre clubhouse, an irrigation system, a practice range, an 800 metre gravel access road, a gravel parking lot for 100 vehicles, and a 280 square metre combined maintenance and cart storage building. Employment will be 30 workers during construction and 15 during operation. Construction is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2002 with an operations date in September 2004. The registration appends a Feasibility and Financing Option Study with a Site Analysis and Selection Report and a Migratory Bird Assessment Study. The project was registered on February 26, 2002, public comments are due April 2, 2002, and the minister's decision is due April 12, 2002.

GUIDELINES FOR ENVIRONMENTAL PREVIEW REPORT ISSUED:

Five Year Operating Plan (2002 - 2006)
Forest Management District 16 (Main River Watershed)
Proponent: Corner Brook Pulp and Paper Ltd.

On December 20, 2001 the minister announced that an environmental preview report (EPR) is required to address environmental issues related to the portion of the undertaking within the Main River Watershed. The minister has now issued guidelines for preparation of the EPR. The proponent is required, in accordance with the guidelines, to prepare and submit the EPR to the minister. The EPR, when submitted, will be available for public review.
