$1 million for Baie Verte roads

Percy Barrett, Minister of Works, Services and Transportation, announced today government has allocated $1 million for road upgrades in the district of Baie Verte.

"The department realizes roads in this area need attention and that is why this district has consistently received one of the highest allocations from the provincial roads budget over the past several years," said Barrett. "Of course we would like to see more upgrading done, but the funding has to be allocated throughout the entire province. I believe our financial allocation in the past reflects our commitment to making improvements to roads in the area."

Projects slated for 2001/02 include:

• paving road between Woodstock and Pacquet
• paving Main Road in Nippers Harbour
• paving approximately three kms of Wild Cove Road
• replacing culverts at Nippard�s Harbour Road, Beachside, Seal Cove, Woodstock Intersection, and various places along the La Scie Highway
• extending culvert at Buxton Brook, Nippard�s Harbour Road
• foundation repair at Bullies Brook

The department expects to call tenders for the projects over the next several months.
