The following is being distributed at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador:

Eastern Canadian Hoop Championships in Nova Scotia

The Newfoundland and Labrador Basketball Association will be sending a midget boys and a midget girls team to take part in the Eastern Canadian Championships in Nova Scotia, July 20-22. Teams competing in this tournament include Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI, Ontario, and Newfoundland.

Members of the midget girls team are as follows: Robyn Constantine and Laura Critch of Dunville, Erin Mullaley of Freshwater, Melanie Ball, Paula Barker, Sara Wight, Amy Bailey and Meagan Seaward of Deer Lake, Candice Coady and Karin Koops of St. John's, Cassandra Furlong of Kilbride, Chelsea Kavanagh and Leslie McGuire of the Goulds, Kayla Smith of Lewisporte and Sarah Sullivan of Calvert. The head coach Pam Constantine and she is assisted by Dave Constantine and Bas Kavanagh.

Members of the midget boys team include: Daniel Bruce, Cory Chafe, David Hayden and Kevin Chayton of Goulds, Malcolm Conway of Angels Cove, Chris Follett, Jamison Mercer, Matthew Spurrell and Chris Langdon of St. John's, Blair Pittman of Fox Harbour, Perry Dawe of Deer Lake, Michael Harris and Ronnie Sweeney of Mount Pearl. The head coach is Scott Lynch. The assistant coaches are Tim Ford and Dave Noseworthy.

Action begins with the round robin games on Friday, July 20 with the championship games slated for Sunday, July 22 .
