The following is being distributed at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador:
Provincial basketball championships
The Newfoundland and Labrador Basketball Association kicks of its Minor Provincial Pepsi Championships this weekend with 47 teams participating in various regions of the province.
The West Coast Mini Under 12 Boys and Girls event will be held at G. C. Rowe and St. Gerard�s in Corner Brook with 20 teams participating.
The East Coast Girls Mini Under 12 A and B will be held in the Gould�s at St. Kevin�s and Gould�s Elementary with a total of 14 teams entered.
The East Coast Boys Mini Under 12 A will be held at St. Catherine�s School on Salmonier Line with eight teams competing for the championship.
The East Coast Boys Mini Under 12 B will be held in Mobile with five teams competing.
The tournaments are scheduled to start on Friday and will conclude with the championship games on Saturday evening.
A total of 270 teams have registered for this year�s Pepsi championships and will compete over the next four weekends.
