Hunting seasons officially open

Kevin Aylward, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation and minister responsible for inland fish and wildlife, wishes to advise the public of the general opening of the hunting season for big game in many parts of the island. In Labrador the season is opened for certain species in select management areas.

Hunters should note that information, pertaining to this year's hunting seasons can be found in the 2001-2002 Hunting and Trapping Guide available at various government offices including the Department of Forest Resources and Agrifoods, Government Services Centres, Inland Fish and Wildlife Division offices and licence vendor locations. Also the public can view news release information on the Government Web Site (see /releases/).

"Hunters and trappers play an important part in helping to manage the province's abundant wildlife populations. It is the time of year that many Newfoundlanders and Labradorians take part in activities that have been part of our heritage and lifestyle for centuries," said Minister Aylward. "I would also like to remind everyone that these resources must continue to be used in a wise and responsible manner and I wish all hunters and trappers a safe and enjoyable season."
