"Our province boasts some of the most spectacular scenery in the world," said Aylward. "Visiting our provincial parks provides one of the best ways to discover the true natural beauty of Newfoundland and Labrador. Government is committed to preserving and protecting our wealth of natural features for present and future generations." Hundreds of parks, historic sites and waterways throughout the country will participate in Parks Day. Participants in Newfoundland and Labrador include the following parks:
Activities taking place at these sites include "Take a Hike", environmental games and campfire programs and a special feature, the "Honourary Park Manager for a Day" contest where you can enter to win an opportunity to manage the park you are visiting for the day. The winners will have breakfast with the staff, complete a site inspection, and meet and greet campers. "Parks Day is a wonderful opportunity for us all to get out and enjoy the great outdoors, as well as increase the awareness that everyone can play a role in protecting our natural heritage," added Aylward.
