Cape St. Marys Ecological Reserve opening date re-scheduled

Kevin Aylward, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, today announced that the opening of the Cape St. Marys Interpretation Centre has been delayed due to heavy snow conditions.

"The access road to Cape St. Marys was not accessible for some time due to the extraordinary snow fall this past winter," said Minister Aylward. "Therefore, the scheduled opening of May 4 has now been moved to May 11 to provide officials of my department and the Department of Works, Services and Transportation ample time to prepare for the opening. We will extend the closing date from October 8 to October 15 to allow visitors to make use of our excellent fall weather at Cape St. Marys. We regret any inconvenience this may cause.

"Cape St. Marys Ecological Reserve is an internationally significant seabird colony and is the largest gannet colony in the province and the second largest one in North America. It is also the most accessible seabird colony in North America. All the seabirds have returned to nest and we hope that you will visit Cape St. Marys this season and enjoy this magnificent reserve and our services." This site has been nominated recently for an award by the Attractions Canada Award Agency.
