Minister pleased with increased air service for province

Kevin Aylward, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, today commented on Canada 3000's recent announcement of increased air service for the province.

"Canada 3000's announcement of increased flights from St. Johns and other points in central and western Newfoundland is most encouraging news,"said Minister Aylward. "Air access to Newfoundland and Labrador has always been a matter of great interest to this department. The recent announcement by Canada 3000 suggests there will be a significant increase in the level of service it provides, both in the number of destinations served and the frequency of flights. The circumstance of having a second large carrier offering daily flights to major destinations, and providing a constant standard of service, is a welcome addition to transportation services for the province. The flexibility in scheduling which should result will provide increased opportunities and viable travel options for individuals and groups wishing to visit our province."

The minister is delighted with the level of competition introduced into the airline industry by Canada 3000's expanded service, as well as the companys plans to initiate a new level of business service. Canada 3000's recent action will help in the development of a healthier, more user-friendly and consumer conscious airline industry.

"I am very excited about the benefits this restructured service will provide to our tourism industry as well as our business sector, especially with the Civic Centre soon opening. We anticipate continued growth in visitation to the province, with an increased awareness of our provinces tourism products and attractions coupled with new meeting and convention capacity. Increased air services can only add to this positive outlook," added Minister Aylward.
