NLIS 63 March 22, 2001 (Tourism, Culture and Recreation) Funding allotted for TRailway Budget 2001-2002 provided $250,000 for the TRailway Provincial Park. "Since 1997, this park has provided a recreational trail accessible throughout the year to residents of the province and our visitors," said Tourism, Culture and Recreation Minister Kevin Aylward. "The $250,000 that government is making available this year will be used to upgrade and maintain the TRailway to ensure its continued viability for resident recreation and tourism development." "TRailway is not the traditional form of provincial park, but it is a park nonetheless," said the minister. "I would encourage residents of the province to enjoy all that the trail has to offer throughout the year, while respecting the need to protect and preserve it for future generations." The former CN mainline received designation as a provincial park in 1997. It was established to provide a multi-use recreational trail as part of the Trans Canada Trail network.
