Minister responds to cultural policy proposal for Newfoundland and Labrador

Kevin Aylward, Minister for Tourism, Culture and Recreation, received the document Proposal for Cultural Policy for Newfoundland and Labrador, today, from the Association of Cultural Industries (ACI).

"This proposal has identified priorities to ensure the success and viability of the cultural sector. I will work with the ACI to determine what action we can take in the short term. Then, we will reach outside my department and engage other departments to realize the objectives of this proposals recommendations," stated Minister Aylward. "We will build on governments continuing commitment to support artistic endeavours in our province and undertake to increase the economic viability of the industry."

The development of this proposal is a result of a two year process involving four working groups representing the cultural industries and representatives of the federal and provincial governments to continue the ongoing process of developing a cultural policy for the province. The provincial government was one of the financial contributors to the project.
