The following is being distributed at the request of The Petroleum Products Pricing Commission:
New approach to communications respecting petroleum products pricing
The Petroleum Products Pricing Commission will not be publishing tables in newspapers across the province this month when the new regulated prices are set on Saturday, December 15. The commission has established a Web site, as well as an e-mail address for communication purposes. In addition, we will be forwarding the tables to every municipal council office, all petroleum companies, all retailers and posting them on the government Web site for the information of the public.
The Web site address is www.pppc.nf.ca. The e-mail address is
The petroleum companies will be advised in advance of the effective date, to prepare for the posting of prices, and the Web site tables will be on line effective Friday evening. Municipal offices in the province will be advised on Friday as well. We are requesting municipal offices to post the tables on community bulletin boards. The provincial media will be provided with the tables on Friday evening.
In addition to these communications strategies, the public may request copies of the tables from our offices, and they will gladly be provided with them. Our toll free number is 1-8664898800.
The cost of publishing tables of prices in newspapers throughout the province would have cost the commission in excess of $100,000 annually, and this is not economically feasible in relation to the operational budget. As well, it is felt that when publishing tables of prices, we needed to insure that we reach all the population in as efficient a manner as possible and as quickly as possible. By varying the means of communication, and using technology to the greatest degree, we expect to improve our efficiency of communicating the pricing tables throughout the province.
