Silviculture project for Lewisporte district

Forest Resources and Agrifoods Minister Rick Woodford today announced $51,200 for a silviculture initiative in the Lewisporte district. The funding has been made available through the provincial government's silviculture program.

"Investing in silviculture initiatives throughout the province demonstrates government's commitment to responsible forest management," said Mr. Woodford. "It is also important to highlight that silviculture projects create meaningful employment and provide a significant boost to local economies."

This project involves thinning activity in the area of Horsechops Road and Jumpers Brook in Forest Management District 8. The initiative, which recently got under way, is providing employment for 12 individuals and will continue until late September.
