Premier announces date for by-elections

Premier Beaton Tulk today announced that by-elections for the district of The Straits and White Bay North and the district of St. Barbe will be held on January 30. These by-elections are necessary to fill vacancies created by the resignations of Brian Tobin and Charles Furey.

"It�s time to move forward to ensure that these districts have representation," said Premier Tulk. "We are looking forward to welcoming two new members into the House of Assembly and I urge people in the districts of The Straits and White Bay North and St. Barbe to come out and vote."

According to legislation, a by-election must be called within three months of the effective date of a vacancy.
