NOTE TO EDITORS:

The Department of Tourism, Culture and Recreation has made arrangements to retrieve a locking ring from a World War II German torpedo which was discovered near the wreck of the Rose Castle off Bell Island. The torpedo was recently discovered by Ingo Vollmer, a German underwater photojournalist and professional diver. Recovery of the locking ring portion of the torpedo will take place on October 2, and Jim Walsh, MHA - Conception Bay East and Bell Island will be on hand for the event.

A local boat charter will provide transportation from Lance Cove, Bell Island to the wreck site. For media interested in observing the retrieval the boat will be leaving Lance Cove at 12 noon. Those wishing to take part in the boat charter must advise the Department of Tourism, Culture and Recreation by 12 noon tomorrow (Friday, September 29), as there is limited capacity. Those not wishing to participate in the actual retrieval may wait at Lance Cove until the boat returns at approximately 1:00 p.m.
