NLIS 6 August 17, 2000 (Tourism, Culture and Recreation) Minister announces mission staff for 2001 Canada Summer Games Charles Furey, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, is pleased to announce the individuals who will comprise the mission staff for the 2001 Canada Summer Games. "Mission staff play a key role in the preparation of the provincial contingent attending the Canada Games," said Furey. "The mission staff consists of employees of the Department of Tourism, Culture and Recreation and volunteers from the sport and recreation fraternity of the province. These volunteers were chosen because of their extensive backgrounds in sport, many of them having experience in multi-sport events and having attended past Canada Games, in addition to having served on provincial and national executives." The 2001 Canada Summer Games will be held in London, Ontario from August 11-25, and Newfoundland and Labrador will be represented by over 350 athletes, coaches and managers. The mission staff will provide necessary support to the athletes, coaches and managers, as well as being a liaison for a particular sport, arranging coaches/managers receptions, coordinating travel, and designing and publishing a games newsletter.
