Islendingur continues its provincial tour

The Islendingur began its tour around the province after arriving in LAnse aux Meadows last Friday. Spectators were taken back in time as they watched the replica Viking ship approach the shore, commemorating the arrival of the Vikings 1000 years ago. "The ceremony marking the return of the Vikings to LAnse aux Meadows was entertaining and moving....a wonderful event," said Tourism Culture and Recreation Minister Charles Furey. "The celebrations have had great coverage locally, nationally and internationally. We have also had great response with hundreds of people to greet the Islendingurs arrival in Port au Choix."

People throughout the province will be able to enjoy these celebrations. The spectacular entertainment package will play a large role in the Vikings 1000! celebrations, and will follow the Islendingur to each port. "I invite everyone to come out and enjoy the celebrations in all of the host communities," Minister Furey said. The concert will be headlined by the Fables with a spectacular finale with fireworks. The celebration will be entertaining for all age groups. Along with performances by the Fables, there will also be performances by favorite childrens entertainer Sonya Abbott and the popular musical theatre group Spirit of Newfoundland

In addition to this spectacle the community will also be invited to board the Islendingur.
