Minister comments on funding for Pigeon Cove-St. Barbe RV Campgrounds

Charles Furey, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, and MHA - St. Barbe, is pleased to announced the provinces participation in receiving FRAM-ED funding for the Pigeon Cove-St. Barbe RV Campgrounds.

"The funding will provide improved infrastructure for the Pigeon Cove-St. Barbe Local Service District, in particular the Pigeon Cove-St. Barbe RV Campground," said Furey. "With the Labrador Straits Ferry located in St. Barbe, and a growing number of tourists to the Viking Trail and Southern Labrador, as well as the new, upgraded Trans Labrador Highway, there is a strong need to provide additional RV services to the traveling public."

The total project costs of $220,872 will provide services such as water and electricity to 25 RV lots and will provide space for another 40 unserviced lots, as well as to install a dumping facility for recreational vehicles. The goal is to improve the already existing RV Service Centre and provide essential services to the travelling public including washrooms, a laundromat, shower facilities and a meeting room with kitchen facilities. It is also intended to increase the exposure of the RV Service Centre, as well as the community of Pigeon Cove-St. Barbe.

"This project will improve the overall aesthetics of the community and will result in a higher level of tourism activity for the Northern Peninsula and Southern Labrador and thereby increase employment and other economic benefits for the area," added Furey.

Minister Furey also expressed thanks to Gerry Byrne, the federal member for Humber-St. Barbe-Baie Verte, for his contributions in getting this project approved.
