Soirees & Times; bigger
and better
Charles Furey, Minister of Tourism, Culture
and Recreation, is pleased that Soirees & Times has started strong and
should continue strong throughout the summer.
"We have increased our summer events by
20 per cent, because of last years success. Soirees & Times is an
excellent way to promote cultural activities to resident and non-resident
tourists. It introduces tourists, and reminds Newfoundlanders, of our
heritage and culture, by showing an evening of traditional Newfoundland and
Labrador food and entertainment" said Minister Furey.
Soirees & Times is a project of the
Special Celebrations Agency of the Department of Tourism, Culture and
Recreation. The projects objective is to promote cultural activities to
resident and non-resident tourists and to use the traditional Newfoundland
and Labrador time in the province as a tourism attraction. The program is
open to community groups, clubs, organizations, churches and other private
operators, with the obligation to offer an event that complies with typical
Newfoundland and Labrador tradition. All participants have use of the logo
to advertise on the their premises, and are listed in the Soirees &
Times brochures that are distributed all over the island.
The following is a schedule of the Soirees
& Times in communities across the island. Displaying their version of a
Newfoundland and Labrador time with music, plays, stories and dancing.
