Visitor Information Centre grants
Charles Furey, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, today announced
the annual grants for regional Visitor Information Centres (VIC).
The grants are intended to provide financial support to assist with operating
costs of regional operating Visitor Information Centres. The following Visitor
Information Centres have been awarded grants for the 2000 tourism operating
season, totaling $41,300 of funding:
Bay St. George Chamber of Commerce - Stephenville
Corner Brook Chamber of Commerce - Corner Brook
Baie Verte Peninsula Economic Development Association - Baie Verte
Green Bay Economic Development Association - Springdale
Exploits Valley Development Association - Grand Falls-Windsor
Twillingate/New World Island/Change Island Development Association - Newville
Gander & Area Chamber of Commerce - Gander
Heritage Run Tourism Association - Marystown & Goobies (2 centres)
Hawke�s Bay Development Committee - Hawke�s Bay
Labrador Straits Historic Development Corporation - Forteau
Labrador West Tourism Development Corporation - Labrador City
Labrador North Chamber of Commerce - Happy Valley Goose Bay
Port au Port Economic Development Association - Port au Port
Alexander Bay/Terra Nova Development Association - Glovertown South
Bonavista South Development Association - Plate Cove East
Town of Harbour Grace - Harbour Grace
St. Anthony & Area Chamber of Commerce - St. Anthony
"The regionally operated Visitor Information Centres throughout the
province play an important role in providing tourism information to our visitors
and residents," said Furey. "Our VICs are often the first point of
contact for a tourist, and we want to ensure that they are well-equipped to
provide visitors with all the information necessary to assure the vacation
experience of a lifetime."
