Opportunity for media to travel to Iceland to cover departure of Islendingur

One of the highlights of the Vikings! 1000 Years celebrations will be the arrival of the Islendingur, a replica Viking ship, at LAnse aux Meadows on July 28. Premier Brian Tobin and Charles Furey, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, will participate in the official Islendingur departure ceremony on June 17 in Reykjavik, Iceland. The departure ceremony coincides with National Day celebrations in Iceland and promises to be a fabulous event for all.

Six hotel rooms along with airline flights have been secured through the Special Celebrations Agency for media representatives to travel to Iceland. Plans are underway for media to meet with the crew of the Islendingur and to sail on the ship prior to its departure from Reykjavik on the afternoon of June 15. The official departure ceremony will take place at 4 p.m. (Iceland time) on June 17.

Any media wishing to travel to Iceland to cover this event should contact Tara Laing for details. Please note the deadline to respond is end of the day on Thursday, May 18.
