Viking Trail Sno-Tour 2001

Imagine zooming through the untamed winter wilderness of the Viking Trail, viewing pristine landscapes seen by few people. Consider the exhilaration of making this special journey on a high-powered snowmobile, along a groomed trail as smooth as any asphalt highway. Or, for the more adventurous, marvel at the wild back country routes to remote communities such as Harbour Deep and Battle Harbour. These are some of the memories that will stay with you from Viking Trail Sno-Tour 2001, the final official event of the Vikings! 1000 Years event calendar.

With one of the heaviest snowfalls in Eastern Canada and a season that normally runs from December to April, you can ride for days and never cross your own tracks. Sno-Tour 2001 will utilize the new groomed snowmobile trail network of the Northern Peninsula and Southern Labrador. The tour will begin March 24, 2001, and is the culmination of several events which will showcase the snowmobiling potential of Northern Newfoundland and Southern Labrador.

The official opening of Sno-Tour will take place during the Grenfell Ride, one of the most popular snowmobile outings in Eastern Canada. Each year, the Grenfell Ride attracts thousands of people to Main Brook, retracing the route taken by Sir Wilfred Grenfell in a fateful voyage in which he became stranded on an ice pan, surviving only by his wits and courage.

Sno-Tour 2001 will include a series of events throughout the region and packaged guided snowmobile tours. Each of these tours will be provided by the private sector, who will include lodging, meals, and other necessities in their packages. In fact, participants need only to fly or drive to Deer Lake or St. Anthony, and from there the rest of the details are taken care of for them.

Sno Tour 2001 is being planned and organized by the Viking Trail Tourism Association, in conjunction with private sector operators. For more information, contact:
